What do snakes, adult learners, a family heritage festival and a community chronology all have in common? It is often said that libraries are mirrors of the community spirit, and in this edition of What's New in Libraries? we'll learn how two libraries have grown to be vital parts of their community. Join host Sarah A Long, Director of the North Suburban Library System, on a visit to the Des Plaines Public Library Heritage Days and to Skokie Public Library as we learn more about the history of Skokie and the role that the library has played in that history. Next, we'll see a performance by the Lakehurst Players, a group of adult learners from the Waukegan area who have put together a program reflecting the needs of adult learners, and we'll find out how their contributions have helped adult learners as we celebrate National Literacy Month.
What's New in Libraries? is an award-winning cable show which aims to showcase the events, programs, and people that make libraries vibrant community centers. Sarah Long, the host, also writes a weekly column for Chicago's Daily Herald, which highlights opportunities and issues in the library world.
Sarah is the director of the North Suburban Library System and host of What's New in Libraries? As a recent past president of the American Library Association, Sarah uses her motivational speeches, weekly Daily Herald newspaper column, and radio and television appearances to advocate locally and nationally for libraries.
